Started Construction, and got to step 19 out of about 42. Very impressed with the kit structure, easy to find all the parts, clearly labelled and instructions easy to follow. So far, spent about 2 hours assembling, and it looks like this:

Sunday, put the rest of the stickers on:
Monday, ordered a OS 50SX-H Engine from [1]

Friday, Engine from [1] turned up. Nice engine.

Saturday. Drove to [1] as they had radio in stock. Opted for the Field Force 9 instead. Very nice. Engine runs nicely, but nut on flywheel works loose.

Sunday. More locktite on flywheel nut.

Sunday 15 October

Took the heli up to the field, and the guys at the club looked her over and made sure all was ok.

Andy gave her a test flight, and all was well. I then strapped the training undercarriage on, and had a go myself. Great - much easier to control than the twister!

Sunday 22 October

Once again up at the field, with Andy again by my side - I must take a blood pressure monitor up, as I'm sure Andy's BP and pusle goes higher than my helicopter does! Started off discovering that the first flight was with 100% expo on the elevator and aileron, and so found the cyclic rather forgiving. Wound it back to 30% and much tighter. Andy gave me a tip to help me maintan a good hover about the pitch control, and that worked nicely, and managed a few reasonable length (30 sec to 1 min perhaps hovers. Towards the end I noticed the tail misbehaving, and doing a sudden 45 degree piro - set her down and Andy found the same, and upon inspection, the battery was low. To my surprise the training undercarriage had come unhooked in two corners too, it was lucky not to have slipped, else there'd have been bits of it in the rotors, and making for a messy landing. I should have a bigger battery soon, so that will last much longer. I've fitted a remote glow start cable, which makes starting much easier now. Time to add a battery meter I think.

Did a little bit of hovering, but had a problem with my training undercarriage, in that the rods were coming out of the holder - to the extent that I landed with only 3 of the 4 rods in. Luckily she didn't quite tip over as the rotors came to a stop, and all was well. I decided not to do any more flying that day, as a quick bodge was likely to come apart again, and I didn't really want bits of training undercarriage going through the rotors. Here she is at the field, in the pits.

Wednesday 8 November

See, I can fly it!

See, I can fly it!

Had a wednesday session, to account for the fact that I won't be able to make it at the weekend. It was just me and Daren there all afternoon, so I mangaged loads of flights. I timed one hover at 3 minutes, but I had to land because the wind was in my eyes. I also practiced lots of landing. A nice afternoon, and I'm quite pleased with my progress. Here's a movie of me flying. Click Here

Had a wet morning, but manages two tankfuls, the second without the training undercarriage on. A closeup here:
